Why prune

The right cuts keep a tree, and your house, safe

Clear the roof

Limbs off shingles and gutters, and pines lifted so needles and branches stop piling up.

Remove deadwood

Dead limbs are the first thing to fall in a storm. Taking them out now is cheap insurance.

Storm-proof the canopy

Thinning lets wind pass through instead of catching the crown like a sail.

Raise the canopy

Clearance over driveways, walkways and lawn, so you can mow and park without ducking.

Shape young trees

Structural pruning early prevents weak forks and splits decades later.

Let the light in

More sun for lawns and gardens, more air for the tree, and the view back.

The Mac's way

Cut for the tree, not just the job

Bad pruning can do more harm than no pruning. Richard's crew makes clean cuts at the right spot so the tree seals over, and never takes more than the tree can handle.

  • What's best for the tree. Sometimes a tree has to be cut back or removed for safety, but the goal is always to keep it healthy and standing.
  • No stripping the inside. A tree needs its inner branches to stay strong.
  • Bucket where we can, climbers where we can't. The bucket truck is fast from the drive; climbers reach the rest without heavy equipment on your lawn.
  • Everything cleaned up. Limbs chipped and hauled, or chips left for your beds if you want them.

★★★★★

“Trimmed and lifted pines on my entire property. 30+ trees. Did a great job, using a bucket where they could and climbing the other trees. Cleaned everything up and provided chips to my sister-in-law, no charge.”

Pruning questions

When is the best time to prune?

Deadwood and hazards can come out any time. For most shaping and thinning, late winter while trees are dormant is ideal, but timing depends on the species. Richard will tell you what's best for yours.

How often should trees be pruned?

Mature trees near a house usually need a check every few years. Young trees benefit from light structural pruning more often while they're growing.

Can you trim branches near power lines?

Lines running to poles are the power company's to clear. We'll work on the rest of the tree and tell you if the utility needs to come out first.

Do you haul away the branches?

Yes, it's included. If you'd like the chips for mulch, just ask and we'll leave them where you want.
