For over 40 years, we’ve proudly served Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Carthage, Vass, Whispering Pines, Cameron, and Seven Lakes—treating each property as if it were our own.

A Legacy of Care

Mac’s Tree Service was founded in 1985 by Richard McCaskill with a simple but powerful mission: to preserve and protect the trees that make the Sandhills so unique. Originally named Mac’s Tree Works, the company quickly earned a reputation for honest work, reliable service, and deep respect for the environment.

Richard’s son, Matthew, grew up around the business and developed a strong calling to carry the torch. He became a certified arborist, studying under a former apprentice of Dr. Alex Shigo—known worldwide as the father of modern arboriculture. This influence shaped the company’s commitment to tree health, structural integrity, and science-backed care.

They worked diligently and completed the job in the estimated time. Once they completed the work, you would hardly know (other than the now missing trees) that anything was done.
